In the 1997 NBA season Michael Jordan led his team to another NBA victory. Although Utah Jazz’s Karl Malone received the Most Valuable Player award, Jordan still got the big prize. Tinker Hatfield, the genius designer behind the Air Jordan series, drew his inspiration from the East this time around. Japan was the force behind the new design of the shoe. The flag of the Japanese army and navy was look that Hatfield modeled the shoe after. The textured leather went down to the midsole in a very eye catching way. These shoes were also lauded as the most durable of the Air Jordans. They don’t wear down like the other sneakers.
